Meghalaya imposes night curfew along border
Shillong, Aug 5: Meghalaya has imposed night curfew along the border in view of the political development in Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country due to violent protests over the job reservation issues.
Meghalaya shares 442 km border with Bangladesh and hence the state government wants to prevent any spill-over effects.
After chairing a meeting with the BSF officials, DGP, Chief Secretary and state home department officials on Monday, Deputy Chief MinisterI in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong said the curfew will be from 6 pm to 6 am daily within 200 metres inside Indian territory till the situation improves.
The BSF has requisitioned 9 battalions for guarding the territory. The Centre has agreed to send more para military forces, Tynsong said.
The deputy chief minister said the state police will also assist the BSF to ensure tranquility in border.
