The government will have to constitute search and select panels before appointing the new Lokayukta chief.

In the absence of a chairperson, the Lokayukta has become defunct as there is no scope to accept complaints since it has been functioning only with a chairperson without any members unlike State Information Commission and Human Rights Commission.

The first Lokayukta was retired Justice P K Mushahary who had served from November 2018 to May 2021 followed by Dhar from February 2022 till 2025 February.
