Meghalaya lose to Bengal in Junior Boys National Football C’ship

Shillong, Jul 23: Meghalaya had a two-goal lead but saw defending champions West Bengal overturn the deficit to win 4-2 in the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2025 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy in Amritsar on Wednesday.
Coach Seibor Sana made two changes to his starting line-up from the first fixture on Monday, bringing in Alvin Kharbani in goal in place of Thrisilbirth A Sangma and also choosing Skhemlang Marthong instead of Shanborlang Khongjee.
Chanjib Chetry produced a brace for Meghalaya in their second Group B match, scoring in the 13th and 38th minutes.

However, Rajdeep Paul (44′) was able to reduce the margin before half time for Bengal and he added two more goals for a hat-trick in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 78th and in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Sagen Hansda (77′) scored Bengal’s other goal.

Meghalaya had lost 5-1 in their opening encounter against Kerala two days ago and they are thus left with only fighting to avoid dropping into Tier 2 when they take on Tamil Nadu on Friday. Tamil Nadu drew 0-0 with Kerala today.
In the standings, West Bengal have a full 6 points, Kerala 4, Tamil Nadu 1 and Meghalaya 0.
