Govt may make test mandatory before marriage

Shillong, July 24: Meghalaya may go into a Covid-like pandemic mode to reduce the HIV-AIDS cases in the state, besides making tests compulsory before marriage.

East Khasi Hills MLAs held a meeting on Thursday, chaired by Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, to discuss the matter.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Ampareen said HIV/AIDS cases in East Khasi Hills have doubled to 3,432.

“Out of this 1,581 patients were under treatment, whereas 681 did not return for treatment”, he said.

As many as 159 patients died after  they did not avail themselves of Antiretroviral Therapy(ART)
