Meghalaya records 25% excess rainfall in June

Shillong, July 1: Meghalaya has recorded 25% excess rainfall in June this year. Meteorological Centre, Upper Shillong confirmed the excess rainfall on Monday and predicted heavy rainfall till July 5.

Continuous rainfall on June 30 and July 1 resulted in damages in some parts of the state.

Landslip 

Landslip was reported at Lawbyrtun-Rngikseh road under Mawthadraishan Block, Eastern West Khasi Hills. Assessment is being conducted by the block team. Pariong was also affected.

Two more landslides were detected at Tiehsaw on the Nongstoin Shillong Highway.

A house was totally damaged at Deran locality near Chitoktak, Tura and not above Gandrake falls.

NH- 6 at Lumshnong 

As far as Lumshnong area is concerned, the government said machinery and construction materials are ready at site and once the water flow stops, restoration work of the affected road will be commenced.

Current synoptic situation by IMD 

A trough runs from north Punjab to Mizoram across north Haryana, north Uttar Pradesh, north Bihar, cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation
over northeast Assam & neighbourhood persists and now seen at 1.5 km above mean sea level. The trough from west Assam to north Odisha between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
