Shillong, May 5: Meghalaya Human Rights Commission has asked the state DGP to submit a report on the killing of two labourers from Ichamati.
According to the order of the commission, an online complaint vide diary No. 01/IN/2024, Dated 31/03/2024 was filed by complainant Shreshta, resident of 4/23, Annai Sivagami Nagar, PRC Colony, Thanakkankulam, Thirunagar, Madurai stating that on March 27 there was a peaceful protest by a group of people against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Ichamati. However, some miscreants took advantage of the situation and violence broke out wherein two persons who belong to the non- indigenous communities were allegedly beaten to death after the protest. The bodies were identified as (L). Insan Sing and (L) Sujit Dutta.
The complainant appealed to the commission to initiate an inquiry.
On consideration of the facts narrated by the complainant, the commission took note of the the matter.
The commission directed the DGP to submit a detailed report on the allegations of the complainant within fifteen days from the date of receipt of the notice.
