Mid-Day meal workers’union demands wage hike

Shillong, Aug 11: All Meghalaya Mid-Day Meal Workers Union has demanded hike in their wages from Rs 1,000 per month.

They are also availing the wages only for 10 months.

Concerned over the plight of the workers, the advisor of the union, Kenneth Shadap addressed a press conference by highlighting that the government is violating Article 21 of the Constitution which is right to life among other rights.

He said though the officials had proposed to hike the wage to Rs 3,000 per month, the government was not willing to do so.

Kenneth had also written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on July 7 this year seeking his intervention to increase the wages.

President of the union, Biilin Kurbah also narrated the problems being faced by the workers.
