Shillong, Jan 10: Minerva Academy, Chandigarh and Ryntih Football Club, Shillong have come together to set up a football Academy at Diengpasoh, Shillong.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Samran Syiem( in picture left), the CEO of Ryntih Football Club said facilities of Minerva will be available once the academy is established.
An agreement was already signed between Minerva and Ryntih in this regard on January 9. Foundation stone for the academy will be laid by Ranjit Bajaj, the owner of Minerva.
Besides football, Minerva has hockey and cricket academies.
It was after seeing the potential of football in the state that Minerva came forward to help, Syiem said
“Meghalaya is a football hub and talents are untapped,” he said.
The general manager of Minerva Academy, Harshit Tyagi(in picture middle) said Minerva was impressed by what Ryntih achieved in I- League qualifiers as it did so much with so less.
Tyagi said the centre of excellence will be constructed by Ryntih Football Club following which Minerva coaches and other facilities will be made available to the Club.
“We will help Ryntih Football Club in building youth teams and to excel at youth levels. We will have strategic plans with actual timelines,” he added.
