Shillong, Aug 28: Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai on Saturday urged the union minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt to provide no objection certificates for construction and expansion of various roads in Shillong which will help ease traffic congestion.
Many areas in the city are surrounded by defence establishments and permissions were sought from them in the past for expansion of roads and flyovers but in vain.
Shullai also sought funds for a water tank at Jhalupara and upgradation of Goenka Hospital.
Besides, Shillong Cantonment School proposal has been sent by the Shillong Cantonment Board.
The BJP minister also raised the difficulties faced by Mawshbuit residents whose only point of entry and exit is within defence area.
He reminded that the local MDC and chairman of KHADC Pyniaid Sing Syiem had taken up the matter with the defence ministry in the past and the MDC had also met the union defence minister before Shullai’s trip to Delhi.
Shullai urged the Centre to relocate the gate and allot a free unhindered passage for civilian movement.
