She had also said one of them had taken out a knife to threaten the minor girl. The minor girl had alleged that the incident occurred at Lumiablot, Nongthymmai and was traumatised by the event.

An FIR was received on the same day, and a case vide Rynjah PS case No. 258(8)2025 U/S 309(4)/309(6)/351(3)/126(2)/3(5)/ 3(6) BNS was registered and investigated into. This incident had caused immense consternation and apprehension among the public.

Syiem said after investigation, including recording of the statement of the victim before a Magistrate in the District Court, the minor girl confessed that she had given the money to her friend for purchasing an item online. Due to fear of having spent all the money, she had fabricated the story of getting robbed. “Hence, the incident never occurred as alleged, and the incident as reported is not a fact”, Syiem added.

He said a final report into the case will be submitted.

“It may also be noted that giving false information (FIR) to the Police is an offence and legal action can be taken accordingly”, he added.
