Shillong, April 14: Three persons were arrested in connection with theft of a rifle MCCL factory in Sohra.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said that on April 11, Home Guard personnel performing duty at MCCL factory appeared at Sohra police station and reported that one .303 rifle was found missing from the store room and an FIR was lodged.
A case was registered and investigated.
On April 14, two suspects, Shaiborlang Jyrwa ( 21) of Marai Thymmai, Sohra and Sawbor Sooting (20) of Mawkisyiem, Sohra were picked up for interrogation. They admitted to have taken the .303 rifle from the Administrative Building of MCCL. They hid the rifle in the house of Alpha Mary Jyrwa Nongseij, grand mother of Shaiborlang Jyrwa, at Mawkisyiem.
A search was carried out on the leading of both the duo and the .303 rifle bearing no. 3709740 was recovered from the house at Mawkisyiem,. It was duly seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
The police official said a third accused Teilang Sohkhia (19) of Marai Thymmai, Sohra was also picked up later..
All the accused have been arrested and will be produced in court on Wednesday, the official added.
