Mohun Bagan names new award after Subhash Bhowmik
Kolkata, Jan 31 (UNI): Mohun Bagan Athletic Club has decided to launch a new award for “Best Forward” in the name and memory of Subhash Bhowmik.
“We have an existing award of ‘Best Defender’ in the name and memory of Late Shri Jarnail Singh. Like the other awards this new award will also be conferred on ‘Mohun Bagan Day Celebration’ on July 29,” Club secretary Satyajit Chatterjee in a statement said.
This year, the Club Technical Committee comprising Bidesh Bose, Manas Bhattacharya and Satyajit Chatterjee has unanimously concluded that the inaugural “Best Forward” award would be conferred to Kiyan Nassiri on July 29 for his stupendous and prolific performance in the ongoing Hero Indian Super League.
Nassiri created history by becoming the youngest player ever to score a hat-trick in Kolkata Derby. It would a befitting tribute to Bhowmik who, during his coaching period always advocated for young footballers and gave them the opportunity to play for the top Club Teams of the country and many of them eventually went on to represent the Indian National Team, the club secretary said.
“We hope that this recognition would motivate and invigorate Kiyan to carry on his hard work and scale new heights in his career,” he added.
