MoS for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai to inaugurate the Land Port Dawki on May 4

Shillong, May 3: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai will inaugurate the Land Port Dawki on May 4 in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Preston Tynsong and the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh.

The Dawki Land Port is an important project of the Centre aimed at promoting trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh.

Land Port Dawki is located in West Jantia Hills, 55 km from the district headquarters, Jowai, and about 84 km from Shillong. The corresponding Land Port in Bangladesh is Tamabil, located in the Sylhet district.

Land Port Dawki serves as a vital trade and transportation hub between India and Bangladesh, facilitating the movement of goods, people and vehicles across the border.

In addition to serving as a hub for trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh, Land Port Dawki also facilitates passenger movement across the border.

Development of Land Port Dawki was approved by High Level Empowered Committee (HLEC) of MHA on February 4, 2016. The Land Port is spread over a total area of 23.0 acres.
