Motorcycle rally flagged off from city to Delhi

Shillong, Sept 1: Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi on Thursday flagged off the motorcycle rally at BSF sector headquarters at Mawpat to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.

The rally will conclude in New Delhi on September 16 after covering Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh.  Besides Shillong, the rally will pass through the various cities like Guwahati-Dhubri-Siliguri-Maldah-Krishanagar-Kolkata-Durgapur-Hazaribagh- Varanasi–Prayagraj-Kanpur-Agra-Delhi. A total 30 motor cyclists- 15 from BSF Janbaaz (men’s motorcycle team) and 15 from BSF Seema Bhawani (women’s motorcycle team) are participating in the rally.


Besides Bishnoi, Inderjit Singh Rana, IG, BSF Meghalaya Frontier and officials from various government offices were present.

BSF jazz/ brass band enthralled the local audience with rendition of patriotic songs followed by cultural programmes presented by the students of BSF school. The rally was welcomed at Nongpoh by the Deputy Commissioner, other dignitaries and Commandant 172 Bn BSF.

The rally will show case various events like short films on BSF, awareness on drugs, smuggling and programmes to attract youths to join the BSF, India’s first line of defence. While they will interact with school children and youths of the country en-route, the rally will also raise awareness on the role and task of the BSF which is the largest border guarding force in the world and its contribution to national security.

Bishnoi, while addressing the gathering, said the motorcycle rally is part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav’ an initiative of the Centre to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.

He also said the rally will spread a message on national integration and patriotism among countrymen. It will also boost the morale of the youths of the country and will encourage and motivate them to join the BSF and other forces.

He said this will also be an opportunity to spread awareness on drug abuse.

The IG BSF also hoped that the rally will bring the desired result.

The BSF has scheduled a series of events like the BSF bands display at various locations/establishments, friendly volleyball and football match with BGB, motorcycle rally, plan to celebrate teachers’ day and various cultural programmes from July to December this year.
