Mukul blames MDA for losing ADB fund for basin development

Shillong, Nov 7: TMC leader Mukul Sangma on Monday blamed the MDA government for losing Asian Development Bank funding for the Integrated Basin Development Livelihood Promotion Programme.

Speaking at a block-level meeting at Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills on the occasion of the inauguration of TMC party office, Sangma said, “I tried ensuring three stable income sources for each family under the Integrated Basin Development Livelihood Promotion Programme. The Government of India could not provide us with adequate funds so I sourced money from various international funding agencies like the Asian Development Bank, The World Bank, and JAICA.”

“I established 117 educational institutions across the state with Human Capital Development funds from the Asian Development Bank. However, the MDA government did not provide a Utilisation Certificate to the Asian Development Bank, and therefore lost our hard-earned funding,” he added.

On a personal note, the leader of the opposition said as the son of an educator who struggled with meagre salary, he understood the importance of the basin development programme.
