Mukul raises GHADC salary issue & illegal coal mining

Shillong, July 31: The Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma, has criticised the state government for failing to release the salaries of GHADC employees for 42 months.
Speaking to reporters, he questioned the government’s failure to implement the Meghalaya State Finance Commission Act, 2012 and wanted to know whether the inaction was an attempt to cripple the ADCs in the state.
Mukul also sought immediate disposal of the case against the alleged misappropriation of central assistance of Rs 100.71 crore to GHADC, pending with the Meghalaya Lokayukta.
Mukul wanted the Supreme Court to monitor illegal coal mining and transportation.
He alleged that the forces involved in illegal coal mining have a well-scripted modus operandi, which includes delaying investigations and creating a situation where evidence cannot be established.
He pointed out that this modus operandi is not new and has been observed in previous cases.
Mukul said the authorities should verify the quantity of coal in depots and conduct physical verification of coal that has been auctioned.
According to him, the lack of fear for the law among those involved in illegal coal mining is a major concern
