Mukul wants scrutiny of externally aided projects

“How many externally aided projects (EAPs) the MDA government has been able to bring during their time? During our time, we have brought that, Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP,) JICA related, all those livelihood programs, these are all our programs”, he said.

He pointed out that the government was not implementing EAPs transparently, citing the example of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project

“Are they doing it in a transparent manner? No… go and see all the works that have been done, the road doesn’t last even one year, so all this once subjected to independent quality monitoring the state will get a red flag.”

Sangma cautioned that poor implementation would impact future funding,.

“Then the state will lose this advantage of getting funds from externally aided projects in future… they are doing injustice to the future generation.”

He called for scrutiny of EAP implementation and said, “The implementation of all these programs under EAPs shall be put under stringent scrutiny by us and we will take necessary action against all those concerned who are involved in this exercise.”

He also stressed the government’s increased revenue share from the Centre, attributing it to previous efforts.

“We were able to increase it from 32 percent to 42 percent, it is a huge increase…the Government of India was persuaded also that 30 to 42 percent, so you have a quantum jump of resources which have been made available to the state”, he added.
