Murmu to meet state MLAs in Umiam

Shillong, July 5: The presidential candidate of the NDA, Draupadi Murmu will address all Meghalaya MLAs at Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam on Wednesday.
The election is scheduled on July 18.
BJP National Executive Member & in-charge presidential election AL Hek appealed to all public representatives to rise above party lines to support the first tribal lady to the post of the president.
Hek said the NDA believes in empowering women and uplifting tribals and backward classes.
The MLA said the NDA has unanimously proposed the name of Murmu, the former Governor of Jharkhand as the nominee and presidential candidate for the NDA.
“It will be a matter of pride and honour for all of us to have a tribal in the constitutional position of the President of India,” Hek said.
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) announced its decision to support Murmu.
The decision was taken based on the request made by Hek.
After the CEC meeting, HSPDP president KP Pangniang said Hek had requested the party to extend its support to the NDA presidential candidate and hence it was decided accordingly.
