NCC directorate gets new chief

Shillong, Dec 1: Maj Gen Gagan Deep has taken over as the new Additional Director General (ADG) of NCC, NE region. An alumnus of Sainik School, Kunjpura and the prestigious National Defence Academy, Pune, the General Officer was commissioned into the JAT Regiment/Infantry in Jun 1991.
An official statement in this regard said on Thursday that the general officer is rich in experience and wisdom, having tenanted various challenging command, instructional and staff appointments. He has commanded an Infantry Battalion in counter insurgency operations ( CI ops) and high altitude areas, a mountain brigade in CI ops and held staff and instructional appointments which include, General Staff Officer of an Infantry Brigade, Infantry Division, Brigadier General Staff (BGS) of a Corps, in addition to holding important staff appointments in the Army HQ including that of Military Advisor to the Vice Chief of Army Staff and Director of Foreign Division. He has served extensively in the Northern and Eastern theatres and his career record include excellence in courses, including the prestigious courses in Defence Services Staff College and National Defence College, the statement added.
Superannuation for Bhaskar Kalita
Earlier on November 30, Major General Bhaskar Kalita, Additional Director General (ADG), National Cadet Corps (NCC) , North Eastern Directorate, (NER) superannuated after 38 years of commissioned service in the Indian Army. An alumnus of Sainik School, Goalpara, Assam and the prestigious National Defence Academy, Pune, the General Officer was commissioned into the 19th Battalion of Kumaon Regiment on June 8, 1985. Ever since that he has had a chequered and challenging career and held various command and staff appointments, including command of an Infantry Battalion, Infantry Brigade in Counter Insurgency Operations, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of a Mountain Division in the Eastern Theatre, GOC of a Sub Area and others.
