NE load despatch centre donates ambulance

Shillong, April 9: As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the financial year 2024-25, North Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NERLDC), GRID-INDIA donated an ambulance worth Rs.23.6 lakh to
the Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre at Silchar, Assam recently.
The ambulance services which can significantly improve access to emergency
medical care were inaugurated by Executive Director, NERLDC, GRID-INDIA
Amaresh Mallick at the Department of Surgical Oncology, Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre with an objective to strengthen the medical infrastructure at the Hospital and primary healthcare of Assam and other NE states.
Also present during the event were Dr Ravi Kannan , Director of the hospital,
doctors, staff and G Praveen Naik, Head of HR, NERLDC.
Dr Kannan is a Padma Shri and Ramon Magsaysay awardee.
Dr. Kannan is a surgical oncologist,
who previously served as the Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology at the
prestigious Cancer Institute (WIA) in Chennai.
A statement in this regard said the mobile ambulance will play a pivotal role in improving emergency medical care and outreach in Silchar and surrounding areas, particularly in the northeastern states.
Dr. Kannan expressed his gratitude for the donation, emphasizing that the ambulance will greatly enhance the hospital’s ability to provide timely medical assistance and save lives.
In addition to its core function of ensuring the security and efficient operation of the
national electrical grid, NERLDC has consistently supported community development through various CSR activities. These include initiatives such as building toilets, providing drinking water facilities, installing water ATMs, and donating educational materials like desks and chairs to schools in Shillong and Guwahati.
NERLDC’s focus on healthcare infrastructure aligns with its broader CSR vision of strengthening the medical infrastructure and primary healthcare systems in Assam
and the Northeastern states of India. The donation is a testament to GRID-INDIA’s
ongoing commitment to making a positive and lasting impact on the communities it
serves, the statement added.
