NEHU internal inquiry: Prof Prasenjit denies charges

Shillong, Dec 9: An internal inquiry instituted by NEHU based on allegations against Prof.Prasenjit Biswas was rubbished by him by saying that it was baseless and the purpose was to divert the attention.

One of the allegations which led to the inquiry against Biswas was for spreading communal hatred based on a letter from NEHUSU. ⁠Financial irregularities at the office of International affairs headed by Biswas were also alleged.

The third allegation was visiting abroad without proper approval.

When contacted on phone Prof CA Mawlong, who was heading the inquiry, did not respond .

Messages were also sent to her but in vain.

When asked, Biswas said, “All baseless story to divert attention. Onus lies on them who say so”.

Other sources indicated that Biswas did not write any letter which led to the spread of communal hatred.

According to the sources, Biswas did not use funds without approval from VC and that due process was followed for foreign visit.

The allegations against Biswas come at a time when a central probe is on against NEHU VC .

Earlier, the VC had pointed out the role of Biswas and Prof Lakhon Kma for allegedly creating unrest in NEHU which was denied by by both the professors.
