NEHU to host 3-day professional photography training

Shillong, May 18: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, has announced a three-day professional photography training programme, scheduled to be held from May 20 to 22 in collaboration with OM System (formerly Olympus Corporation).

This hands-on training workshop is designed to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of professional photography. Organised in association with OM System, a globally renowned name in imaging technology, the workshop offers an exceptional opportunity for aspiring photographers to engage with advanced equipment and expert guidance. OM System is recognised worldwide for its cutting-edge, high-performance camera systems used by professionals and photography enthusiasts alike.

Over the course of three days, participants will receive intensive training using OM System’s professional-grade cameras and lenses. The sessions will cover essential aspects of photography, including camera operations, equipment handling, lighting techniques, composition, and visual storytelling. The workshop is structured to deliver a holistic learning experience that blends technical know-how with creative insights.

The training will be led by three distinguished experts from the industry. Ravendra Pal, Product Manager at OM System, will offer deep insights into the evolution and usage of advanced imaging technologies. His sessions will focus on building a strong technical foundation for participants. Arihant Mukhedkar, an acclaimed fashion and advertising photographer, trainer and mentor, will lead sessions on the creative and technical dimensions of photography. Known for his learner-centric approach, he will guide participants on composition, lighting, and the art of visual storytelling. Sudipta Chakraborty, a nationally and internationally recognised wildlife photographer, will share his extensive experience and techniques in capturing compelling images of the natural world.

This workshop is especially beneficial for students pursuing journalism, mass communication, visual arts and related disciplines. It aims to empower them to use photography as an effective storytelling medium to enrich their narratives with creativity, clarity and context.

In addition to technical proficiency, the programme aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.
