Shillong, March 16: NEHU Vice Chancellor PS Shukla assured that recruitment of non-teaching is a priority besides effecting promotion.
In an appeal to the non-teaching staff of NEHU, the VC admitted that many sections within the administration are struggling due to shortage of regular staff, placing immense pressure on those currently working.
“I had assured the completion of non-teaching staff recruitment before the winter vacation in November 2024.
Applications were received, preliminary processes were completed, and I was actively seeking a fair and efficient agency to conduct the examination and facilitate recruitment as per the established rules. However, due to
disruptions over the past few months, it has not been possible to proceed as planned.
I deeply regret this delay but want to reassure you that the recruitment of non-teaching
staff remains my highest priority, and I am committed to completing the process
within the next few months”, he said.
According to Shukla, unfilled staff vacancies lead to increased workloads, disrupt student services, and create administrative backlogs. “The non-teaching staff is the backbone of NEHU, ensuring that offices, classrooms,
hostels, and various services function smoothly. Your hard work and commitment do
not go unnoticed—there is a deep appreciation for all that you do”.
He said at NEHU, more than 82% of students are from Meghalaya, and 92-95%
are from the Northeast region. Their academic success depends on the rigorous efforts
of both teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as the efficient functioning of the
university.
“Disruptions and agitation only serve to hinder the academic environment and the smooth operation of the campus. I also recognize that many of you have been waiting for your promotions. Career growth is essential, and I fully understand your aspirations. I am committed to processing these promotions as soon as possible. However, to accomplish this, I must be present on the main campus, actively working to complete the process. The recent disruptions have not only delayed recruitment but have also put promotions on hold, leading to frustration and disappointment. I acknowledge the significance of these advancements for you and your families, and I assure you that I am determined to ensure they are processed at the earliest opportunity”, Shukla said.
“I do not believe that the non-teaching staff wishes to see the university in turmoil. I believe you want NEHU to thrive, just as I do. That is why I seek your constructive support in restoring normalcy. The sooner we bring stability back to our institution, the sooner we can complete recruitment, process promotions, and move forward with work that benefits everyone—students, faculty, and staff alike. I appeal to your sense of responsibility and your deep connection to this institution.
Let us not allow disruptions to hold us back. Let us work together, with patience and
determination, to build a university where every staff member, student, and faculty
member feels valued and respected.
I am here for you. My doors have always been open and will remain open for discussions and solutions. Let us stand together for the betterment of NEHU and ensure that we continue to serve this institution with pride”, the VC added.
