The medical superintendent of NEIGRIHMS Dr C Daniala and the Public Relations Officer Dr Saurabh Singh on Monday asserted that there was no laxity on the part of the institute regarding medical treatment to the accident victim.

According to the hospital authorities, Suraj Gupta (22) was  brought to the emergency department (in picture )of the institute on July 23 at 12. 20 pm after a road accident.

The patient complained of inability to move and pain in both lower limbs coupled with difficulty in breathing.

The institute said the patient was immediately attended to by the doctor on duty.

There was a delay of almost one hour for the patient to reach the institute from the accident site at Umiam.

The lab and radiological investigations were completed by 1 pm and the X-Ray was suggestive of multiple fractures. The doctors at the orthopaedics and general surgery were contacted and they attended the patient promptly.

As the patient was in a critical condition, by 2 pm, the vitals became unstable and his condition deteriorated. Following this, the medical team started Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

The patient was intubated with the permission from those who were with him. The CPR was carried out for one hour and the patient was declared dead at 3.15 pm.

A staff at the emergency department said that there were four to five staff and nine to ten doctors at the emergency.

The staff said the group of people was not supposed to enter the emergency department.

Besides breaking the windows, the group  threw away one trolley syringe pump and two drip stands. It was only after the intervention of the police that the group dispersed, the staff added.
