NESO questions hidden agenda, asks PM to break silence on Manipur
Shillong,June 28: North East Students Organisation (NESO) president Samuel Jyrwa has expressed shock at the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Manipur situation and wanted to know whether there is any hidden agenda as violence is allowed to continue in the neighbouring state.
Speaking to reporters after organising a candlelight vigil together with the KSU at Khyndailad here on Wednesday for peace in Manipur, Jyrwa said, “It is very surprising and shocking that the Prime Minister of the country who used to be very active in commenting on any issues affecting the different states of the country is silent till today even after nearly two months that this mayhem has occurred in the state of Manipur.”
“We urge and we call upon the Prime Minister of India to speak on this issue and to take proactive measures in order to stop the violence and to resolve the issues which may arise out of this problem,” Jyrwa added.
The questions on hidden agenda and silence of the PM were raised during the candlelight vigil.
“If the violence is not stopped at this very moment, it shows that the government of India has a hidden agenda behind allowing this violence to continue in the state of Manipur,” Jyrwa said.
“Well we don’t know what is the hidden agenda but there may be some designs by the outside forces inimical to the interest of the indigenous people of the different states of the NE region,” he said.
Criticising both the state and the Centre for failing to contain the violence in Manipur, Jyrwa said, “Both the state and the Centre have failed in their fight against this violence and the government of India without imposing the President’s Rule, they have more than 50,000 troops in Manipur, this should have been sufficient enough to control the violence if they really wanted to.”
Jyrwa also said this has raised a serious question about the capability of the armed forces in maintaining peace in the state of Manipur.
The NESO chief asserted that peace should be restored in Manipur and added that the candlelight vigil is observed in all the state capitals of the North East region besides Tura, which is hosted by the Garo Students Union to call for peace and stop violence in Manipur.
Jyrwa said the NESO team will meet leaders from both the Meitei and Kuki organisations in Manipur.
“We believe through our interaction with them, we would be able to bring some semblance of peace in the state of Manipur”, Jyrwa added.
