No arrest yet in mob lynching incident in Rajabala

Shillong, June 22: Police are yet to make any arrest in the lynching incident in Rajabala, West Garo Hills.

“We are registering a case but arrest has not been done yet as more than 30 to 40 people may be involved and yet to be identified by witnesses”, West Garo Hills SP Abraham Sangma said on Sunday.

Narrating the incident, the SP said, on June 21 around 5.15 pm, the OC Rajabala PS received a telephonic information that one Aminul Islam @ Bhulu (32), son of Samsul Haque of Morasuti attackedĀ  Fulbahar Sk, son of Late Nur Hussain with a dao at Morasuti road and after attacking him, the accused tried to run away from the spot.

However, the public/mob chased him andĀ  attacked him as a result of which he sustained deep lacerated wounds on his head and other parts of the body and died on the spot at New Bhaitbari near Durga Mandir under Rajabala PS. The deceased attacker is reported to be mentally unsound.
The mob have been dispersed and the police team have taken custody of the dead.

“The person attacked by the mentally unsound man suffered serious injuries and was referred for further treatment in Guwahati.
