No foul play in destruction to truck full of rubber: Police
Shillong, Apr 29: Police have ruled out any foul play in the incident of destruction to a truck full of rubber in Ri Bhoi on Monday afternoon.
According to Ri Bhoi SP, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the handyman was injured after the truck caught fire around 2 pm in Umsaw Nongkharai, NH-6.
During the preliminary enquiry, it was found that the 14-wheeler truck (JK05H0666) driven by Sifyat Ali, loaded with rubber caught fire
Police said Fire and Emergency Sevices were in action to douse the fire and the traffic on both the lane came to a standstill. After the fire was brought under control, the traffic was cleared managing both sides of the two-lane road. Later, JCB from NH was used to remove the load.
Police said during further enquiry, it was learnt that the vehicle loaded with rubber was coming from Agartala, Tripura to proceed to Punjab.
According to the police, the driver, co-driver and another occupant reached Umsaw Nongkharai to take some rest as they usually stop there for cooling off the tyres as stated by Yaseer Ahmed, co-driver of the vehicle. Suddenly, the driver and the co-occupant who were outside the vehicle shouted and asked the Yaseer to come out of the truck as the vehicle caught fire. In the process of getting out of the truck, he received some blisters on his right hand, cheek and neck and is admitted in Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. The police visited the hospital and recorded his statement and the statement of the occupant Siraj Ahmed.
“On asking about any suspicion of foul play they said the fire started on its own and that they do not suspect any foul play by any one”, the police said.
