Shillong, April 14: There will be no railway project in the Khasi-Jaintia region of the state until and unless everybody is taken on board, according to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar.
“Chief Minister is yet to call for an all party meeting that will also include stakeholders. We will discuss nicely and we will listen to them. Don’t worry, there will be no rail project until and unless everybody is on board. We always work for the people”, he told reporters on Monday.
The state government had constituted an All- Party Committee on railway connectivity on April 3.
The terms of reference include finding solutions, ways and means to bring about the introduction and construction of railways in Meghalaya.
The committee will also make cost benefit analysis of introduction of railway in the state besides seeking views of all stakeholders and accordingly submit the recommendation to the state government.

Hw said the expansion of Shillong Airport will start soon for ensuring the landing of bigger aircraft by next year.
Dhar said, “We have good news. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has floated a tender for expansion of the Shillong Airport and I hope within 2026, we will be able to get big flights landing there.”
There are no difficulties as tender has been floated and work will start, he added.
“Land acquisition process is almost complete and we will soon make payment. Everything is in order. Everything is falling in place and that is why AAI is able to float the tender,” he said.
