Imphal, Jan 31 (UNI): The notification for phase one of Manipur Assembly elections involving 38 Assembly constituencies will be issued on Tuesday, kickstarting the process of filing nomination The constituencies in phase one cover five districts – Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi.
The nomination for these 38 seats can be filed till February 8. The scrutiny of nomination papers would be taken up on February 9 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11.
Polling will take place on February 27. In the second phase, 22 constituencies will go to the hustings on March 3.
State Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ramananda said in view of Covid cases, the Election Commission of India has provided the facility of filing online nominations too through Suvidha portal.
An intending candidate may submit the application online and take a printout for submitting before the Returning Officer. The candidate may also deposit security money through online mode. However, a candidate will continue to have the option of depositing the security money in cash to the Returning Officer.
A candidate can also seek permission for meetings, door to door campaign in online mode. Besides, the number of persons who can accompany a candidate for submission of nomination paper is restricted to two.
The maximum number of vehicles for the purpose of nomination is two.
