Kharlukhi refers to Nidamon case, Prestone downplays probe demand
Shillong,Jan 18: The national spokesperson of NPP and the returning officer, Abhaya Kashyap and NPP state president and MP WR Kharlukhi have justified the election of Thomas Sangma as the new national general secretary though he is accused of raping a woman. The case is pending in the High Court of Meghalaya.
After the announcement of the name of Thomas as new general secretary , to the many questions of journalists, the reply of the duo was “until proven guilty no action can be taken”
Kharlukhi even referred to NPP leader Nidamon Chullet, who is one among the accused involved in the assault of activists Amita Sangma and Agnes Kharshiing who were probing illegal coal mining.
To a question, Kharlukhi said, “Even in Nidamon’ s case too, I had maintained that until proven guilty , nobody can be punished”.
No probe on coal deal
Though the TMC leader Mukul Sangma yet again pointed out instances of illegal coal mining, Kharlukhi downplayed the need for independent probe and wanted the journalists to ask the questions to Mukul.
It is upto the government to deal with the matter, Kharlukhi said without giving any direct reply.
NGT will take care
Later, when asked, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the NGT will take care of the issues related to coal downplaying the need for an independent probe into the matter.
