Shillong, Sept 5: Amid media reports that some UDP MLAs will be leaving their party, Deputy Chief leader Sniawbhalang Dhar has said the NPP will not betray the people by switching allegiance.
Addressing a campaign for party candidate Dr DRL Nonglait at Mawryngkneng, Dhar said, “Some leaders want to join BJP now but remember NPP does not betray the public, you elected us in this uniform, we will remain in this uniform. If we betray you, we betray the people of Hynniewtrep Hynniew Skum.”
Regarding allegations that NPP means BJP, he said, “When we work together with BJP it means we work for development.”
Dhar said the party has principles and stays busy with public work.
“We never speak ill of friends or insult people,” he said.
He also defended the government’s finances, Dhar dismissed claims of mounting debt.
“Some parties say MDA government is full of debt, this is totally wrong. The government cannot take loan as it wishes, there are financial rules and guidelines,” he said.
Regarding leadership, Dhar said, “There are leaders who only have words without work, there are leaders who don’t want to talk but do with work. I don’t talk much I do with work, that is why my people have not lost faith in me for 20 years.”
He said issues should be resolved across the table, not on the streets.
“We should not discuss issues on the street, we will discuss in the Assembly, inside, on the table, we should not lead public to the street. If rulers don’t listen to the voice of the people, they are not fit to be rulers. Inside the Assembly we don’t do politics, in a field like this we will do politics,” Dhar said.
