Shillong, June 17: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), the youth wing of NPP, on Thursday congratulated the state government for the measures it has taken to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The group also apprised Sangma of the hardships faced by children and the youth who are extremely vulnerable to the “greater societal shifts” owing to the pandemic. It requested the state government to empower these youths through upskilling and better learning opportunities to improve resistance against threats and challenges in a highly volatile market after the Covid-19 pandemic.

NPYF will soon organise a series of online career counselling and mental health programmes in English, Khasi, Garo and Jaintia. Professional counsellors will be engaged to provide support via phone, webinar or in-person counselling.

Nongkhlaw applauded the Meghalaya Youth Policy 2021, “which will accommodate the aspirations of lakhs of youths in the state, especially when it comes to offbeat career options such as sports, visual arts, games, songs, dance and drama, besides traditional academic opportunities”.

He said the chief minister assured that the Youth Policy will be implemented soon and many will benefit from this initiative.

After the meeting with Sangma, NPYF said it is convinced that the policy will help Meghalaya to harness the potential, energy, skills and enthusiasm of the youth.
