Onam celebrated in city

Shillong, Sep 17: Onam was celebrated with traditional pomp and gaity at Soso Tham Auditorium here on Sunday by Kalakairaly Shillong and All India Malayalee Association Meghalaya.

Goa governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, who was the chief guest, spoke on oneness of thought, culture and tradition in Kerala which, according to him, is the essence of Onam.


Cabinet minister AL Hek who spoke on the occasion appreciated the Malayali community for the Onam celebrations and emphasised that humanity is the most important religion.

Dr Shakil Ahammed, Meghalaya additional chief secretary spoke of tradition and importance of reaching the ultimate truth which is beyond religions as is done in Kerala.

Rajesh Adimali, a TV artiste and performer enthralled the audience with his one-man show.

Ona sadya (Onam feast) with more than 20  varieties of dish was served to more than 600 participants.

Pradeep Pillai, president welcomed the audience and Rajeevan P, vice president delivered the vote of thanks.
