An official said on Thursday that the landslide occured early morning at Nongpriang village under Shella block.

“It was raining very heavily and portions of  two houses were  washed away. Four persons were missing and feared dead”, the official added.

Among the four victims, the body of Phisar Nongrum (75) was recovered while Kynmaw Syngai (70) Benti Riahtam (60) and Lumlang Riahtam (16)-all from the family- are still trapped under mud.

According to an official, as the place is non motorable, it is difficult to send any earth moving machinery and hence it is taking time due to manual removal of debris.

The police, fire and emergency services and District Disaster Management Authority ( DDMA) teams are at the site and they will be
working at night to retrieve the remaining three bodies.
