Shillong, Apr 27: One more KSU member was arrested on Saturday in connection with the murder cases in Ichamati and Dalda.
The accused has been identified as Osternic Marbaniang, according to the police.
He is the assistant finance secretary of the KSU.
Earlier, three KSU activists- Shamborlang Shati and Mesadapbor Skhembil (both from Sohra and aged 26 years) and Cleanstar Shabong (27) from Nongthymmai were arrested in connection with the crimes on March 27.
Two workers- Insan Singh and Sujit Dutta- were stoned to death at Ichamati and Dalda respectively.
The FIR filed by the family members of the victims had said the incident took place after the anti-CAA protest held in Ichamati by the KSU activists.
Police statement on the incident
“In connection with Shella P.S. Case No. 08(04)2024 and Shella P.S. Case No. 09(04)2024 u/s 302/34 IPC, where Late Ishan Singh and Late Sobir Dutta was murdered in Ichamati, one accused person, Shri Osternic Marbaniang (34 years) S/O Smt. Tila Marbaniang R/O Jaiaw, Laitdom, Shillong was arrested on 27.04.2024 from Jaiaw.
We, further, appeal the people to maintain peace and order. All miscreants who act in a manner to breach law and order will be strictly dealt with as per law”.
