Guwahati, Jan 11 (UNI): One person was shot dead by suspected militants in Assam’s Cachar district near the state’s border with Manipur on Tuesday, a senior police officer said.
“One person got killed… and nobody is injured. He was a former militant,” Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, DGP, Assam said.

According to sources, a group of suspected armed militants entered the Lakhipur village and started firing in which one villager was killed and a few others were injured.
It may be mentioned here that a similar incident of firing had been reported in the same district of Assam along the Manipur border on December 14 last year. One person was injured in the firing.
