Shillong, Oct 23: Noisy scenes and exchange of words between the Opposition members in the KHADC and the Council Executive Member (EM) Pynkhraw Kharjahrin over media reports on professional tax erupted on Day 2 of the session on Thursday.
What irked the opposition members was that the EM raised a point of order, questioning the manner in which the professional tax issue was reported in the media.
Quoting a report in a Khasi channel, the EM pointed out that the report portrayed a war of words between the opposition leader and the Chairman
As the EM continued his criticism, the opposition leader and other members stood up to target him as the Chairman struggled to control the situation.
The opposition leader’s plea to the chairman to expunge the adverse remarks against the media went in vain.
The opposition had on Wednesday pointed out the show-cause notice issued to a taxation official who had served notices to realise professional tax.
The KHADC Executive Committee had claimed that the notice was issued by the taxation official without the knowledge of the Council.
