Outgoing HNLC vice president to pursue pending cases

Shillong, Sep 28:The outgoing HNLC vice president Suifyan A Hazarika alias Manbhalang Jyrwa will approach the state government regarding his pending cases as he wants to lead a normal life by joining the mainstream.

The HNLC is still a banned organisation.

Jyrwa resigned from the post on Thursday.

According to Jyrwa,his ailing mother and family obligations have compelled him to resign from the outfit as he will not be able to concentrate on the task which has been assigned to him.

Jyrwa was leading the HNLC delegation to hold peace talks with the government.

Speaking on phone,Jyrwa,who joined the outfit in 2011-12, said he was attracted to the initial activities of the outfit like Operation Kyllang which was a unique manner of punishment to the rapists.

Before officially joining the outfit, he was associated with group as a sympathiser.

“Now, I have decided to be part of the mainstream”, Jyrwa added.

Peace talks to go on 

Jyrwa said the peace talks with the HNLC will go on as planned and added that his exit would not affect the process.

The new vice president of the outfit will carry forward the talks, he said.

According to Jyrwa, the outfit had already submitted certain demands which will be examined by the government.
