Pala on Friday wrote to the Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the condition of the bridge.
He urged the union minister to direct the concerned officers and departments to execute the repair of the bridge as it connects to the rest of the North East.
Later, the district magistrate RM Kurbah prohibited the movement of vehicles.
“I am satisfied that it is necessary to prohibit movement of vehicles to ply through the Bailey bridge in the interest of public order and for the safety of the road users as well as the bridge and road pavement in the area in particular and the district in general”, she said.
The district administration allowed vehicles within 10 MT to ply over the concrete RCC bridge.
The order was following a technical defect on the bridge and required replacement of some planks in the bridge.
The DC added that it was decided to suspend traffic movement through Bailey bridge immediately to avoid any untoward incident till the rectification of defects.
