Shillong, Jan 14: Congress president Vincent Pala has slammed the Voice of the People Party (VPP) for allegedly mixing religion with politics like the case of the BJP.
“This new political party is using religion in their political campaigning. There is a danger when you mix religion with politics. Pakistan did that, Hamas did that and in Seria too but in the end people, who are using religion in politics are never successful in the long run,” Pala said while addressing media persons on Tuesday after a meeting for introducing the 18 candidates of the party for the JHADC polls on February 21.
“If you attend their political campaigns, you will feel as if you are attending a church sermon. How can that be? In Meghalaya, we have Christians and non-Christians including Hindus. So how can we mix religion with politics?” he asked.
The modus operandi is quite similar to that of the BJP. They use religion and reservation to divide the people, he said.
Stressing the need to refrain from mixing religion and politics, Pala said people of the state are slowly realising their political gimmicks.
“Slowly people are seeing that their words do not match with their actions. They promised to give a reservation but where was that reservation? People are not fools,” he said.
