Shillong, June 17: Pall of gloom descended at Nongstoin after two siblings were buried alive due to landslide on Saturday morning.
The girls are members of the Tarari Choir.
Heavy rainfall caused the landslide at Mawiong-Pyndengrei in Nongstoin area around 3.30 am.
Mud entered the rooms of the rented house ( in picture) where the two siblings were sleeping resulting in the tragedy.
The deceased have been identified as Cafinia Nongsiej (15), a class X student of St Peters’ and Maya Nongsiej (10), daughters of Alexander Lyngdoh Nonglait and Beautiful Nongseij.
Alert sounded
Following the landslide, West Khasi Hills police have asked the people to avoid using the road from Nongdien to Maiawban and District Council towards St Joseph’s hospital in view of the flood and strong water currents.
