Panel discussion at Sankardev focuses on Khasi language in 8th Schedule
Shillong, July 16: The Department of Khasi at Sankardev College, in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, organized a panel discussion on ‘The Inclusion of the Khasi Language in the 8th Schedule’ on July 15.
The purpose of the panel discussion was to provide a platform for a comprehensive deliberation on the importance and significance this would have on the various aspects of the Khasi language if it were to be included in the 8th Schedule to the Constitution of India.
Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh, who was the chief guest, said the state government is committed to taking up the matter with the Centre.
During the panel discussion, various important aspects related to the theme were discussed by Prof. D.R.L. Nonglait, Head of the Department of Khasi at NEHU and president of the Khasi Authors’ Society, Prof. S. Dkhar, professor in the Department of Khasi at NEHU and member of the Sahitya Akademi, Dr B. Khyriem, Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at NEHU, and E. Sutnga, advocate and social activist.
The moderator was Dr Sukjai Swer, Associate Professor in the Department of Khasi at Sankardev College.
