‘Parties playing religious card affecting BJP’

Shillong, Aug 30:The religious card being played by political parties is a hurdle for the expansion of the BJP in Meghalaya.

Speaking to reporters after the state executive meeting of the party here on Saturday, the state BJP chief spokesperson M Kharkrang said the religious angle is the only challenge faced by the party while trying to expand its organisation in the state.

Kharkrang said the issue was discussed in the meeting on how the party can counter this narrative.

“From what I see, the challenge for the BJP in Meghalaya is only that, it is the religious card which is being played by all political parties, who are against the BJP,” he said.

If people look beyond it, the party can establish a strong foothold”, he said.

The meeting was attended by experts and speakers from Delhi aimed at improving the party’s grassroots development strategy.

Kharkrang said the meeting emphasized the party’s commitment to developing India from the grassroots, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision.

On the upcoming GHADC election, Kharkrang clarified that it was not discussed in the meeting.

Regarding the NPP taking credit for central schemes, he said the party’s focus is on ensuring that deserving beneficiaries receive the benefits, regardless of who gets the credit.

“We are not bothered about credit; our priority is to ensure that the schemes reach the people who deserve them,” Kharkrang said.

The BJP is committed to continuing to implement the developmental schemes for the benefit of the people of the state, he added.
