Patna lawyer lodges complaint against Shillong police

Advocate says there were false and baseless allegations against him in the Shillong police's action taken report submitted to National Commission for Women

Shillong, Sept 7: Advocate Fayzan Khan, a resident of Patna, has lodged a complaint with the Patna SP against Shillong Police for their false allegations against Khan.

In his complaint, Khan said in their action taken report (ATR), the Shillong police wrongly alleged that “I claimed to have been engaged by the family members of Ms. Sonam Raghuvanshi, which is absolutely false and misleading”.

The ATR was submitted to the National Commission for Women in August. Calling this report “false, baseless and defamatory”, Khan said, “I never stated in my complaint that I contacted the family of Ms. Sonam Raghuvanshi to represent her. In fact, I clearly mentioned that I reside near Phulwari Police Station, Patna, where Ms. Sonam was kept during her transit remand. A police officer known to me, posted at Phulwari Police Station, informed me of her distressed condition and, out of sheer humanitarian concern, assured her that she should not panic and that legal help could be arranged if required.”

“This officer later provided me with the contact number of her brother, whom I spoke with. However, he categorically denied any legal assistance for his sister,” he added.

Alleging “serious lapses” by Shillong police, Khan said, “Instead of answering the serious issues raised in my original complaint (particularly the illegal arrest of a woman at night and the gross deficiencies in the medico-legal examination of 09/06/2025), the Shillong Police have attempted to divert the matter by leveling (sic) false allegations against me. This act not only violates my reputation as an advocate but also obstructs justice.”

Khan wanted Patna police to take cognisance of the false allegations, ensure that such baseless claims did not malign his professional reputation, and forward appropriate communication to the concerned authorities, including Shillong Police, to withdraw the remarks against him.
