Paul justifies appointment of Agatha

Shillong, Sept 9: Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh has justified the appointment of Agatha Sangma as the chairperson of child rights commission.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Paul said the government’s decision to appoint Agatha as new chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) was after doing due diligence.

Paul said that allegations will always be there even if the government appoints other people.

According to Paul, the fact being that the government had already approached and identified an individual as MSCPCR chairperson but that individual declined the offer and therefore, it took more time that was necessary to complete the process of appointment.

Hence, the name of former Tura MP Agatha K Sangma was recommended to the state cabinet.

“This was after doing due diligence on the matter considering Agatha’s experience in parliament, her educational qualification and also the fact that she has long innings in public service. So those are her major points…,” Paul added.
