Paul Lyngdoh clears air on rice scam, says criticism aimed at maligning him & party

Shillong, June 9: Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh has refuted the allegation in a column written by the editor of a local daily that he was shielding his party colleague and minister Kyrmen Shylla on the rice scam.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Paul said that the inquiry report of Justice ( Retd) Mool Chand Garg did not find any scam.

The probe was following the seizure of one lakh bags of rice from a private go down in Boko by the Assam police in 2021.

The retired judge had probed the Supplementary Nutrition Programme of the Integrated Child Scheme and found that there were no anomalies.

Paul said the allegation in the article is an attempt to malign him and the party’s image.

“To say that I was trying to defend the previous minister (Kyrmen Shylla) who is from my party is malicious. This is an attempt to defame me and the party UDP”.

He said the probe report had gone to the law department and the advocate general had also observed that there was no scam.
