Pema Khandu govt on CBI radar for ‘favouritism’

Apex court orders central investigating agency to probe allegations of allotting state projects to firms belonging to kin

Shillong, Apr 6: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered a CBI investigation into allotment of public work projects in Arunachal Pradesh to firms owned by relatives of state Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

A report by Bar and Bench said a bench of justices, in its order, said an investigation must start in two weeks into the alleged favouritism in allotting contracts between January 2015 and December 2025.

“CBI shall initiate a preliminary enquiry within 2 weeks. Preliminary enquiry and consequential investigation if any shall cover execution of public works contracts and work orders within the period January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2025,” the report quoted the court order.

The bench of justices also asked the state government to cooperate with the central agency. The CBI was asked to file a status report before the court within 16 weeks.
