PM praises Ri Bhoi farmer turned entrepreneur

Revistar Kharumnuid's company collaborates with 500 organic farmers

Shillong, May 14: A farmer turned entrepreneur from Ri Bhoi has earned the praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his prolific works in marketing organic produce.

Speaking on the occasion of releasing the eighth instalment of financial benefits to farmers on Friday, Modi lauded the work of Revistar Kharumnuid, the CEO of Eastern Ri Bhoi Organic Producer Company Ltd, which was formed under the Centre’s Mission Organic Value Chain Development of the North East region.

Kharumnuid produces spices like ginger powder, turmeric and cinnamon.

“Farmers make profit when they directly connect with the business world and you have proved this. How have you grown and what help are you getting,” Modi asked during a virtual interactive session.

“We have received support from Mission Organic Value Chain Development and we have also got subsidy for establishing collection centres… we got training for farmers for capacity building. We are very much thankful to you for this,” said Kharumnuid.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma shared the video of the interaction on Twitter and wrote, “Hon’ble PM @narendramodi Ji also interacted with Meghalaya’s #Organic Farmer, Revistar Kharumnuid, CEO of Eastern Ri Bhoi Organic Producer Company Ltd., formed under GoI’s #MissionOrganic Value Chain Development of NER. He is thankful to PM for his words of encouragement.”

“The Company has 500 farmers under it, covering 16 villages in Ri Bhoi District. It focuses on farming of organic ginger & other organic intercrops & its products are sold in e-commerce platforms like India Mart. Hon’ble PM was impressed with the enterprising spirit of Bah Ristar,” he tweeted.

Modi on Friday released Rs 20,000 crore for 9.5 crore beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
