Shillong, Sep 27: The suicide of 37-year-old armed branch constable, Chiran Mooshahary has exposed lack of counselling initiatives on the part of the home (police) department to deal with stress of police personnel on duty.
The body of the constable, who was posted as sentry at the house of High Court of Meghalaya Judge Biswadeep Bhattacharjee at Harisabha, Laban (in picture)was found at 6.30 am after he shot himself with his service weapon.
According to sources, the constable, who was recruited in 2011, has been facing some family issues.
The East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtynger, however, said there was no information as to whether the constable was restless leading to the incident
Nongtynger said the guard commander had also not indicated anything in this regard.
Police have registered an unnatural death case.
A police source said that there is a need to initiate steps to address psychological issues confronting the police.
