Shillong, July, 17: East Khasi Hills police arrested sex workers, carried out liquor raids on Saturday and Sunday and took action against traffic violators last week.
In a statement issued on Monday, the East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtynger said foot patrolling has been intensified in the areas around Khyndailad to take action on sex workers whose acts of soliciting customers are not only illegal but many a time the cause for many law and order problems.
“In this connection, a case vide Shillong Sadar PS Case No. 177(07)2023 U/S 7(1)(b) Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act has also been registered against them where 15 sex workers were apprehended and legal action taken”, the official said.
Liquor seizedĀ
The police also started conducting vice raids and vigorous patrolling in the areas within Shillong city for the safety of the public and also to prevent untoward incidents.
“Vice raids were conducted in the following locations with the help of the Meghashakti (Women Police Commandos) at Motphran, Paltan bazar, Mawblei, Nongrim Hills, Laitumkhrah Bazar, Mawlonghat, Urkaliar, Upper Shillong, Polo, Mawbah, Jhalupara and Upper Mawprem and seized 1,12,097 ml of IMFL and 7,74,000 ml of illicit liquor on the weekend”, the official added.
Action against drunken drivingĀ
The Shillong Traffic Police conducted day and night vehicle checking at various locations for offences of drunken driving, riding without helmet, modified silencers, tinted glasses and other MV Act offences. Last week, 277 vehicles were compounded and Rs 2,36,500 was realised as fine from violators.
